Sonia Hellenbrand is a German violinist currently living in Montréal, where she performs and teaches. She studied with Yehonatan Berick at the University of Ottawa and earned a Master’s degree in music from McGill University. During her studies, she participated in masterclasses with artists such as James Ehnes and Rachel Barton-Pine. She has performed with the National Arts Centre Orchestra, the Orchestre Symphonique de la Côte-Nord, and the Orchestre Philharmonique du Québec. Sonia has been a soloist with the Vivaldi Young Philharmonics Berlin and the McGill Baroque Orchestra. As a chamber musician, she has participated in festivals across Canada and Europe, including the Scotia Festival of Music and NYO Chamberfest. In Montreal, Sonia organizes concerts of contemporary music and participates in concert series such as the Oasis Musicale. She places great importance on community work – she teaches in the EncoreSistema program and is a SAMS artist who performs in hospitals and long-term care residences.
